Following last week’s unprecedented rain that battered Dubai and left many areas flooded, the Crown Prince of Dubai has sent a heartfelt message to residents. In an electronic billboard near the Museum of the Future on Tuesday evening (April 23), Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, sent a special thank you message. “A special thank you to all who have contributed to our city. With your efforts, Dubai will remain a beautiful place to be,” the message from Sheikh Hamdan read. This came after videos circulated on social media showed how residents and authorities alike worked to help rescue people stranded in their vehicles as roads became flooded following the April 16 torrential rains. As municipality teams worked round-the-clock to clear waterlogged roads in the aftermath of the extreme weather, video footages also showed of residents, restaurants and companies distributing free food and water to people in waterlogged areas. On Saturday (April 20), Sheikh Hamdan ordered all real estate developers and property management companies to provide free repairs, pest control services, accommodation and other services to those affected by the rain and subsequent flooding. The Dubai Crown Prince said that he will personally track the progress of efforts to help bring the city back to normalcy. Prior to this, Emaar Properties already announced it was offering free home repairs in flood-hit communities under its management. Meanwhile, the Central Bank of the UAE has issued a notice to all banks in the country to allow flood-hit residents to avail of a 6-month deferment of their personal or car loan without extra fees, interest or profit charges.
