Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, gave his millions of followers a front-row seat to one of nature’s most spectacular sights, sharing a stunning video of the “Blood Moon” fading over the UAE skies on Sunday night (September 7). The short clip, posted on his official Instagram account, shows the moon gradually losing its fiery red glow as the total lunar eclipse drew to a close. The post quickly went viral, offering residents and fans a rare glimpse of the celestial wonder from the Emirates.

Residents across the UAE were treated to the rare spectacle of a total lunar eclipse, which lasted more than four hours starting at 8:15pm. The phenomenon was fully visible across much of Asia and Australia, while parts of Africa and Europe saw only partial phases. Astronomers say the next total lunar eclipse visible from the region will not occur for several years.

Why the ‘Blood Moon’ glows red

During a total lunar eclipse, the Earth passes directly between the sun and the moon, casting a shadow that transforms the moon into vibrant hues of yellow, orange, or deep red. The exact shade depends on atmospheric conditions—cleaner air results in brighter colors, while pollution can turn the moon a darker crimson or brown.
