Dubai’s aviation sector took centre stage as Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum recently visited Dubai International Airport, offering a closer look at the systems that keep one of the world’s busiest hubs running smoothly. Accompanied by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Sheikh Hamdan reviewed airport operations, including passenger services provided by Emirates and flydubai. The visit on April 21 also included a stop at the Dubai Police operations centre, where he was briefed on security systems designed to safeguard passengers and enhance travel safety through advanced smart services. “I am proud of the teams at Dubai Airports, Emirates and flydubai. Our world-class aviation ecosystem continues to maintain smooth, efficient operations amid evolving conditions while ensuring safety, reflecting the resilience and preparedness of Dubai’s systems,” Sheikh Hamdan said.

Smart airport, seamless travel

Officials highlighted ongoing upgrades focused on improving efficiency and passenger experience, including the use of artificial intelligence, real-time monitoring systems, and smart technologies to streamline travel procedures. At Emirates, Sheikh Hamdan reviewed the airline’s Network Operations Control Centre, described as the “nerve centre” of its operations. The facility uses AI, computer vision, and geospatial mapping to monitor flights, weather, and global developments in real time. These systems allow teams to respond quickly to disruptions, maintain on-time performance, and coordinate cargo and logistics operations. Sheikh Hamdan also praised the professionalism of Emirates’ pilots and cabin crew, noting their role in maintaining high service standards under varying conditions. Dubai International Airport continues to rank as the world’s busiest international airport, welcoming more than 95 million passengers in 2025. Flight movements reached 454,800. Sheikh Hamdan said the airport plays a key role in connecting global markets and supporting Dubai’s long-term development. “As we look to the future, Dubai Airports will continue to advance its expansion plans in line with our vision to shape the future of global aviation,” he said.
