UAE in high-level talks to combat terror financing

  Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, presided over a high-level discussion on combating money laundering and terrorism financing. Representatives from the UAE's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, as well as the Executive Office for Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing, gave presentations on the country's policy. They discussed the UAE's collaboration with its international partners to detect and prosecute criminals as well as destroy unlawful financial networks. In recent years, the UAE has implemented reforms to combat financial crime and will continue to improve its strategy in line with international norms. The UAE Expert Group has held 44 meetings with counterparts from other countries, focusing on the training and promotion of financial crime experts in the country. The major goal is to develop " a strong talent pool of anti-financial crime professionals", WAM stated. This has increased public awareness of developments in the sector and aided the UAE in establishing direct channels of contact between its own professionals and their international counterparts. The UAE-UK Partnership to Tackle Illicit Financial Flows and the EU Structural Dialogue were mentioned as examples of the country's financial crime collaborations. Workshops and 31 capacity-building sessions were held in key jurisdictions, according to WAM, resulting in an enriched exchange of best practices at the worldwide level. KMB/Expat Media
