The region’s most inspiring humanitarian stories will take centre stage on February 15 as Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum presides over the sixth edition of the Arab Hope Makers closing ceremony at Coca-Cola Arena. The initiative, the largest humanitarian movement of its kind in the Arab world, will award Dh1 million to the winner in recognition of exceptional voluntary efforts that have improved lives and strengthened communities. Organised under the umbrella of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), this year’s edition received 15,802 nominations. Since its launch in 2017, more than 335,000 individuals have joined the Hope Makers movement, reflecting its wide reach across the region. Sheikh Mohammed emphasised the importance of optimism and action in shaping the future. “Hope is the spirit of determination and the pulse of life. It is humanity’s eternal quest throughout time and everywhere,” he said. He called on the Arab world to embrace positive change and strengthen a culture of giving. “The Arab world is in profound need of hope-making and a renewed confidence in our ability to resume our place in civilisation, and shape a future worthy of our glorious history,” he said. “Every edition of Hope Makers brings us tens of thousands of inspiring stories of giving and generosity. We are proud of this drive to do good, and this spirited competition to create hope.” The initiative was first launched in 2017 through a creative social media announcement offering a Dh1 million reward for the “job” of Hope Maker. The campaign generated more than 65,000 submissions in its first edition, far exceeding expectations. Sheikh Mohammed also launched the Dh50 million Hope Makers Academy to support humanitarian projects through training, leadership development and knowledge transfer in partnership with global institutions. The most recent edition crowned Ahmed Zainoun from Morocco, who was recognised for helping children affected by Xeroderma Pigmentosum, known as “Children of the Moon.” In that edition, Sheikh Mohammed directed that two other finalists also receive Dh1 million each, bringing total prizes to Dh3 million. The Hope Makers initiative spotlights unsung heroes who dedicate their time and resources to helping others, amplifying their stories across traditional and digital platforms and inspiring a culture of generosity across the Arab world.
