Sheikh Mohammed tests new Jumeirah cycling track

  DUBAI – A new 16km cycling track along Jumeirah Beach in Dubai was put to the test by Dubai’s most avid cycling fan—Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The Dubai ruler was seen riding his bicycle on the newly opened cycling path this week. The bicycle path is open to the public. The track connects to the existing cycling track at Jumeirah Street near Dubai Water Canal to the King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud Street cycling track near Dubai Internet City. The track serves several hotspots alongside Jumeirah Beach such as Sunset Mall, Open Beach, Dubai Sailing Club, Kite Beach, Umm Suqeim Park and Burj Al Arab. The speed limit set for this track is 20 km/hr and it is classified as part of the mobility, sports and entertainment tracks, according to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). Dubai has launched a Master Plan for Cycling Tracks 2026, which aims to make the emirate the most bicycle-friendly city in the world. The master plan includes a construction of additional cycling tracks extending 276 km, which will bring the total length of cycling tracks in Dubai 739km. Currently, Dubai has constructed 520km worth of cycling tracks. By 2026, the emirate aims to create more tracks that will link vital areas in the city. Dedicated cycling tracks in Dubai have a speed limit of 30 km/hr, which lowers down to 20km/hr for tracks shared with pedestrians in urban areas. ICA/Expat Media
