The future of transport lifted off in Ras Al Khaimah on Wednesday (September 10), as Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, witnessed the first trial flight of an electric flying vehicle in the emirate. The demonstration, held at Al Jazirah Aviation Club, featured a vehicle developed by China’s XPENG AEROHT, the world’s leading flying car company. The event was attended by Zhang Yiming, China’s Ambassador to the UAE, alongside senior officials and dignitaries. Sheikh Saud described the trial as a reflection of Ras Al Khaimah’s ambition to build a modern, sustainable city. “The trial flight of the electric flying vehicle represents a new step in our journey to develop smart, eco-friendly transportation solutions that enhance quality of life and support a diverse, resilient economy,” he said. The Ruler emphasized that the greatest challenge of the time is creating sustainable cities and clean transport systems. “Launching this vehicle is not merely a technical achievement but a message that we are building a bridge from the present to the future,” he added. Following the flight, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between RAK Transport Authority and XPENG AEROHT to advance the development of flying vehicle technologies in the emirate. Applications could include tourism, leisure, and rescue operations.
