Sheikh Sultan bin Khalid bin Muhammad Al Qasimi was laid to rest on Tuesday morning (September 23), as Sharjah entered an official three-day mourning period following his death. The Ruler’s Court had announced late on Monday night (September 22) the death of Sheikh Sultan, nephew of Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. Sheikh Sultan was the son of the late Sheikh Khalid bin Muhammed Al Qasimi, who ruled Sharjah from 1965 to 1972 and was the brother of Sheikh Dr. Sultan. Funeral prayers for the late Sheikh Sultan were performed at 10am at King Faisal Mosque in Sharjah. Leading members of the Al Qasimi family joined officials, elders and citizens in prayer. Royals present at the prayers were Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi; Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah; Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah; and Sheikh Sulthan bin Ahmad bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah. Sheikh Sultan was later laid to rest at Al Jabil Cemetery.

Three-day mourning period in Sharjah

The Ruler’s Court has declared a three-day mourning period beginning on Tuesday, during which flags at government buildings across Sharjah will be flown at half-mast. Condolences for men will be received at the majlis of Sheikh Faisal bin Khalid bin Muhammad Al Qasimi in the Al Rumaila area of Sharjah for the duration of the mourning period. In its official statement, the Ruler’s Court extended its condolences to the Al Qasimi family and prayed for Allah Almighty’s mercy upon the late Sheikh Sultan, asking that his family be granted solace in their time of grief.
