Singapore Lucky Plaza car crash: 2 Filipinos battling for life, 2 dead

  MANILA – Two Filipino women are battling for their life at a Singapore hospital following a car crash near the busy Lucky Plaza mall that killed two other Filipinos and injured two more. A Philippine Embassy official confirmed that all six victims in the “freak accident” on Sunday (December 29) are Filipinos. Charge d' Affairs of the Philippine Embassy in Singapore Adrian Candolada said the two Filipinos are in critical condition at the intensive care unit of Tan Tock Seng Hospital. According to The Strait Times, the car “crashed through a metal railing and landed on the side road next to the mall” along Orchard Road before 5pm. A police investigation is underway. The 64-year-old driver of the vehicle has been arrested for dangerous driving leading to deaths. He was reportedly attempting to make a U-turn before crashing into a railing and hitting pedestrians gathered on the pavement. Among those killed were Arlyn Nucos, 50, and friend Abigail Danao Leste, 41. Nucos’ sister, Arcely, was also injured in the accident along with three other female friends aged 37 to 57. The Nucos sisters had reportedly worked in Singapore since 1990, with Arcely set to return to the Philippines in January. According to witnesses, the women had gathered at a pavement behind Lucky Plaza when a black Honda vehicle crashed into them before plunging onto the car park exit. It is believed that the impact of the crash flung the victims to the exit lane. Videos of the incident had circulated on social media and showed pedestrians helping to retrieve the body of a woman trapped from under the vehicle. The Philippine embassy on Monday expressed its condolences to the families of the victims and said that assistance will be provided, including the repatriation of the remains of the victims.
