World's tallest 'car vending' building: check it out

  SINGAPORE – Aside from the iconic Marina Bay Sands and the Changi International Airport – the best airport in the world for five consecutive years, this city-state now boasts of having what is considered as the world's tallest "car vending machine". The unique car showroom building dispenses expensive cars like Ferraris and Lamborghinis. The 15-storey, 148-foot Autobahn tower has become a landmark in Singapore and displays at least 60 vehicles ranging from newer models to collectible cars. Aside from Singapore, other "car vending machines" can be found, are located in the US and Japan. How did the "car vending" tower come about? Gary Hong, general manager of Autobahn Motors told CNN that it all started after he visited Toys R' Us to stop for toys for his son. He said he was inspired by the vertical stack of toy cars in the store and decided why doesn't he do the same in Singapore as he faces the lack of space for his car showroom. With the use of a mobile app customized by Autobahn and with a staff supervising the customer, the car slowly arrives at the ground floor and while waiting, the client views a video of his chosen vehicle. The customer can either view, buy or test-drive the vehicle. So far, sales have risen 30 percent in the first quarter of 2017 compared to sales recorded by Autobahn in the last quarter of last year year. Meanwhile, the tower continues to draw tourists, potential buyers and even land developers who are hoping to get an idea or two from the quirky building.
