Sinopharm to be discontinued in UAE? Not true, says health authority

  DUBAI – The Abu Dhabi health authority has dismissed reports that claimed the use of Sinopharm will be discontinued in the UAE. According to Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), Sinopharm is still being used in the country’s vaccination campaign. According to SEHA, Sinopharm and Pfizer-BioNTech are available in hospitals, clinics and tents that it runs, with vaccine shots and booster doses for qualified individuals. "Members of the community can receive dose one and dose two, or the booster shot, of the Sinopharm CNBG vaccine, or dose 1 and dose 2 of Pfizer-BioNTech," according to SEHA. SEHA's statement came after reports circulated on social media suggesting that Sinopharm was going to be phased out as the Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine was heavily rolled out in Abu Dhabi. The demand for the Pfizer vaccine increased after a number of countries in Europe barred travelers who have been vaccinated with Chinese vaccines like Sinopharm. Early in May, the World Health Organisation gave emergency authorization to use Sinopharm to boost global efforts in the fight against Covid-19. Sinopharm is already being used in the UAE as part the country’s aggressive vaccination campaign against Covid-19. It is approved for use in more than 30 countries.
