'Smart Response' service to alert Dubai Police of traffic accidents

  DUBAI - A new road safety technology service called "Smart Response" will be introduced in Dubai to ensure quick action from emergency personnel in case of traffic accidents. The Dubai Police and Nissan Middle signed a deal on Tuesday (October 18) to implement the service, which is considered the first of its kind in the Middle East. The deal was signed during Gitex, between Lt. General Khamis Mattar Al Muzainah, Commander-in-chief of Dubai Police, and Samir Cherfan, Managing Director of Nissan Middle East. The “Smart Response Service” will be made available to owners of new Nissan Patrol and Maxima vehicles. How does it work? In the event of a collision or accident that results in rapid deceleration, the system works in tandem with the patented Nissan SmartCar “control system” that alerts Dubai Police, The General Department of Transport and Rescue, so that the car’s occupants can receive immediate assistance. The system uses Nissan’s SmartCar app, which has been updated with multiple features including Valet Mode, Travel Mode and Self Health Check and now Nissan has added this latest unique feature as first in the Middle East. In the event of extremely rapid deceleration or unavoidable collision, the system utilizes the on-board accelerometer to detect this potential emergency, and then the system communicates with Dubai Police operators, who then attempt to make contact with the driver to inquire if an accident took place and dispatch the appropriate response unit.
