Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and other Filipinos living abroad will soon enjoy a full online renewal of their driver's licence through the eGovPH app. Philippines' Land Transportation Office (LTO) is currently working on fully embracing technology in line with President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s directive to digitalize all government services, aiming to make them faster and more convenient for Filipinos. LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said that the full online renewal of driver’s licences aims to make the process easier for OFWs, who previously faced long wait times for their licenses to become valid again. “We hope to fully implement this within this year. Once fully implemented, this is indeed a big help to all our clients, especially OFWs, because they do not have to go to our offices or wait for their return to the Philippines to renew their driver’s license,” he said. This initiative is currently being pilot-tested for Filipinos in Taiwan through the app. Aside from Taiwan, LTO is now collaborating with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) to extend the program's reach to the Middle East, Europe, the United States, and other countries with large Filipino communities. “This is not just limited to Taiwan; it will be available worldwide, and this is a big help for our fellow Filipinos because the driver’s licenses we issue are recognized globally,” he added. State-managed mobile application (app) eGovPH now provides online services for 24 different Philippine government agencies. The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) aims to simplify and centralize all government services through the app. The app provides services from agencies like Pag-IBIG, PhilHealth, the Social Security System (SSS), the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), and the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).
