Spotted at Israel Pavilion opening at Expo 2020 Dubai

DUBAI – In another first for Israel in the UAE, the Israel Pavilion was inaugurated at the Expo 2020 Dubai recently, drawing in a mixed crowd since UAE-Israel ties were normalized in September 2020. An Israeli band played lively tunes at the opening ceremony as visitors entered the main area by walking up a walkway that mimicked sand dunes. At the top is an open-steel structure of 15-meter-high LED screen gates showing videos of Israeli culture. It also features a gigantic, illuminated signage in Aravit script, in a font invented by typographer Liron Lavi Turkenich that merges Hebrew and Arabic characters. The sign spells the phrase: “Towards Tomorrow.” At the opening ceremony, Israel’s Minister of Tourism Yoel Razvozov invited visitors to the Israeli Pavilion. “Many things are happening here for the first time. For the first time in history, the Expo fair is being held in an Arab country. It is also the first time there is an Israeli pavilion in a major fair on Arab soil. It is one of the most sound and robust steps toward cooperation between the United Arab Emirates and Israel in history,” Razvozov said.
