Stephen Curry sells shoes to help Oakland fire victims, NBA player auctions off 2 pairs with initials of 36 fatalities

  OAKLAND - Two-time NBA MVP Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors auctioned off two pairs of shoes that he had worn in a game against the New York Knicks last week to raise funds for Oakland fire victims. The two pairs of size 12.5 Under Armour Curry 3 shoes were put on the website eBay and have received 157 bids for a combined total of US$20,000. One pair was worn by Curry in the pre-game warm-up while the other was what he wore during the Warriors versus Knicks game. According to radio station KCBS, Curry coordinated with an Oakland artist in partnership with Under Armour to put the initials of the fire victims and distinctive designs on the shoes. An NBA website report identified the artist commissioned by Curry as DezCustomz and KreativeCustomKicks. To recall, fire swept through the Ghost Ship warehouse in Oakland City, California on December 2, killing 36 people who were attending a dance party there. "We were all devastated by the news of this tragedy and the loss of so many young lives right here in our community. My goal in wearing these shoes was to not only honor the victims that lost their lives that night, but also to raise awareness for the relief efforts that are underway.
