Student death in Ajman: Police increase patrols near schools

After a student died in Ajman last month, police patrols have been stepped up during school pick-up and drop-off periods. According to Maj Fuad Al Khaja, chief of the Traffic and Patrols Section at Ajman Police, the Our Pupils Are Our Responsibility campaign aims to safeguard the safety of pupils in private and public schools. Maj Al Khaja said police patrols will be stationed at pick-up and drop-off areas to ensure that students arrive at school and return home safely. Sheikha Hassan, a 12-year-old Yemeni girl, stepped off the bus near her home in the Hamidiya neighborhood after returning from Umm Ammar School in February. After dropping Sheikha down at the bus stop, the driver drove away without checking the road for traffic and collided with her. He was apprehended and charged with a crime. Patrols will monitor bus drivers and verify that they obey safety guidelines, according to Maj Al Khaja. The department holds activities on a regular basis to educate bus drivers, parents, and students on school bus safety.
