Suicidal Dubai tourist throws hotel furniture on SZR

DUBAI – A tourist staying at a hotel in Dubai was rescued after he tried to commit suicide and threw furniture on the road, the Dubai Police said on Saturday. The European man, whose identity was not revealed, was reportedly intoxicated when he started throwing out furniture from the hotel on the busy Sheikh Zayed Road. Staff from the hotel then alerted the police, who saved the guest from attempted suicide. No one was reported hurt in the incident. The case is the latest in a string of suicide attempts in the UAE in the last two weeks, with three separate incidents reported in Sharjah alone. In one incident, a worker slit his own throat at his apartment in Muweilah area but survived after being rushed to the hospital. In the second incident, a woman jumped off her two-storey home to escape from what she described as an abusive husband. The third case involved a 23-year-old man who jumped off a building under construction in Al Ghubaiba area. All three victims have reportedly recuperated from their injuries. ICA/Expat Media
