Suicide in Dubai averted after man rescued from rooftop
DUBAI – A 27-year-old man who tried to commit suicide by trying to jump off the roof of a building in Dubai has been saved, according to a Dubai Police official. Brigadier Saeed Bin Sulaiman, Director of Al Rashidiya Police Station, said the incident happened in Al Warsan area. He did not give further details about the man’s identity, but said that the man thought of committing suicide after his workmate told him he will lose his job. “He was depressed over the news and decided to kill himself as he refused to return to his home country,” Brigadier Bin Sulaiman said. The man’s friends called police after he climbed up the roof of the building and slashed his wrist. The man had sneaked into the rooftop, which was open due to maintenance work. A special team from Dubai Police talked to the man on the roof, while another team with a safety net waited outside the building in case he jumped off the building. More than 50 members from Dubai Police, Dubai Civil Defence and Dubai Ambulance responded to the incident. Brigadier Bin Sulaiman said that the team managed to talk the man out of committing suicide after a three-hour negotiation. He said that police also contacted the owner of the company where the man worked, and the owner spoke to the man “and assured him that there wasn’t any such decision to terminate him”. The man has been taken to a hospital for check-up. The case has been taken to the Dubai Public Prosecution for further investigation.
