Support new Philippine consul general, Cortes tells Filipinos in UAE

DUBAI – Philippine Consul General Paul Raymund Cortes ends his six-year stint in the UAE this October with a message urging Filipinos in the emirate to support the new consul general. “If I may pass the baton to the new consul general,” Cortes said, introducing incoming consul general Renato Duenas Jr. at a recent event hosted by the Philippine Business Council Dubai and Northern Emirates. Cortes is due to fly back to the Philippines in November to assume his new post as Assistant Secretary for Migrant Workers at the Department of Foreign Affairs. “The engagement with our Filipino community is perhaps the most crucial element of whether a mission is success or not…In the past years, we have always made sure we connected with the community,” Cortes said. “All sectors of the Philippine community must be engaged. We must make sure we have that bond… It’s very important to keep that interaction alive and kicking,” he said. For his part, Duenas thanked Cortes for his support and said he will “continue where (Congen Consul General Cortes) left off”. Duenas served as deputy consul general at the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai before being named consul general. At the event in Dubai, Duenas praised the Filipino community, led by the Philippine Business Council, for running “one of the most successful campaigns” in promoting the Philippine pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai. He described it as a “huge accomplishment”, saying he was impressed with the official Bangkota song and dance that the group put together as part of a community campaign. “ five more months (before Expo 2020 closes). Our work is not done yet,” Duenas said. ICA/Expat Media ALSO READ: Singing Philippine Consul General gives final public performance in Dubai
