CCTV cameras to cover Abu Dhabi city and suburbs in new surveillance move

  ABU DHABI - There will be a lot of watchful eyes in the mainland and the capital's suburbs as authorities begin installing thousands of cameras to keep the emirate safe. The cameras are part of Abu Dhabi’s new surveillance system called Falcon Eye. Authorities will be setting up thousands of cameras in most areas of the city including the Abu Dhabi International Airport, main islands, Bani Yas and Musaffah. The cameras will monitor traffic violations such as the use of hard shoulders, illegal parking, misuse of roads and other traffic accidents. They will also help police crack down on violators of the emirate’s law on public hygiene and human assemblies in non-dedicated areas. The devices will be managed by the Abu Dhabi Monitoring and Control Centre (ADMCC), which will also supervise the expansion of the geographic cover of the Falcon eye project. Major-General Mohammed Khalfan Al Romaithi, Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police and ADMCC Board Chairman, said the system was "part of the vision of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to pursue its efforts to build a confident and safe society, and a sustainable and globally open and competitive economy."
