DUBAI – Hundreds of jellyfish have washed up on the shores of Ras Al Khaimah as fishermen complain of how it is affecting their livelihood.
A video that surfaced on social media showed hundreds of jellyfish entangled in a fishing net. Mahmood A., a fisherman, said they are unable to catch fish with jellyfish filling their nets instead.
It is believed that recent strong winds have driven the jellyfish closer to shore, in addition to the their current mating season as the climate starts to get hotter.
Fishermen said they have spotted jellyfish in large numbers from Shaam to Al Jazira beach in Al Hamra.
