Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid orders Dh50 million aid to Syria

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has ordered humanitarian aid worth Dh50 million to Syria. The aid will provide relief to those affected by the most devastating earthquake that Syria has witnessed in decades. Sheikh Mohammed affirmed that the UAE is “ready to support Syrian people in facing this great calamity that befell them” and will “continue to extend a helping hand to them until they overcome this ordeal”. The aid will be delivered in the form of ration parcels through the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives to the most affected groups in Syria.

UAE President directs launch of operation to Syria, Turkey

Meanwhile, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has ordered the launch of Gallant Knight/2 operation to provide assistance to Syria and Turkey. The medical aid and humanitarian operation includes the participation of the Armed Forces, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, and the Emirates Red Crescent. A first aid plane was sent from Abu Dhabi to Adana Airport in southern Turkey, carrying search and rescue teams, crews, and medical equipment. A powerful 7.8-magnitude earthquake rocked wide parts of Syria and Turkey early on Monday (February 6), toppling hundreds of buildings and killing more than 4,300 people. The death toll is expected to go up. The epicenter of the pre-dawn earthquake was near Gaziantep, close to the Turkey-Syria border, and it was followed by a separate magnitude 7.5 earthquake.
