Tailgating and other dangerous driving behaviors in Dubai will now result in harsher penalties, including the impoundment of vehicles for 30 days, under newly implemented traffic regulations. The revised rules, announced by Dubai Police on Tuesday (October 22), are part of an ongoing effort to improve road safety and reduce accidents in the emirate. The new measures target drivers who fail to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front, use mobile phones while driving, or make sudden lane changes without signaling. These violations, among others, will result in immediate vehicle impoundment for a month, fines of up to Dh1,000, and four black points on the driver’s record. According to Dubai Police, offenders will be required to pay a hefty Dh50,000 fee to release their impounded vehicles. This strict penalty aims to deter reckless driving habits that have contributed to numerous road accidents across Dubai. In the first six months of 2024 alone, 94 accidents have been attributed to tailgating and other dangerous driving behaviors. In addition to the 30-day impoundment, Dubai Police also outlined 10 other traffic violations that could lead to a 14-day vehicle impoundment. These include entering roads without ensuring they are clear, reversing dangerously, lane indiscipline, and driving without a license plate.
