An Asian private taxi driver crashed into a motorcyclist in an accident in Bur Dubai. The taxi driver reportedly lost control of the steering, crashed into a pavement, and then his vehicle swerved, hitting a manager who was riding a motorcycle. The manager was quickly taken to the hospital, where doctors found he had pain and swelling in his right knee, along with scrapes above the injured area. Doctors requested a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which revealed that the patient had a torn ligament in the right knee and a small fracture in the bone near the ligament. The manager's knee injury was so severe that he needed urgent surgery to repair the ligament and had to use a walking stick for a while. The manager’s lawyer, Hani Hammouda Hagag, filed a civil lawsuit against the driver, seeking Dh600,000 in compensation for his client’s medical, physical, financial, and emotional damages. The lawyer presented medical reports to the court, confirming that his client had undergone surgery on his right knee. “Due to the injury, my client cannot work or walk properly… he remains under treatment and physiotherapy. He has paid nearly Dh200,000 in medical bills and suffered mentally and physically. The claimant deserves, based on Article 292 of the Civil Transactions Law, a compensation against his financial, medical, mental, and moral damages,” the lawyer contended. Dubai traffic prosecutors also charged the driver with causing an accident due to careless driving, damaging private property, and injuring another person. The Dubai Traffic Court found the driver guilty and fined him Dh4,000 after he admitted to the charges. FLE/Expat Media
