Taxi driver returns Dh3.5 million worth of gold left by passenger

  DUBAI – A Bangladeshi taxi driver in Dubai showed that honesty is worth more than gold after he returned 25kg of gold worth Dh3.5 million that a passenger left behind in his airport taxi. Liton Chandra Nath, who works with the Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) was working past midnight when his taxi was flagged by four people at the Dubai Airport. Nath said that the passengers carried with them four pieces of luggage and that when they alighted at their destination in Muraqqabat in Deira, they insisted on unloading the bags themselves. After the passengers closed the boot, Nath then drove off. More than an hour later, he received a call from Road and Transport Authority (RTA) Customer Support and the Dubai Police to ask if he found anything left behind by a customer. He checked the boot and found a laptop bag containing gold. He immediately turned over the lost items to the RTA. Nath said there were eight bars of gold in the bag. For his honesty, Nath received a cash reward of Dh1,000 and free housing for a year from the RTA, as well Dh5,000 and a certificate of appreciation from Rail CEO Abdul Moshin Ebrahim Younus.
