The cost of taking a taxi in Dubai has increased slightly following a hike in UAE fuel prices this August. According to Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC), the current rate per kilometre is now Dh2.14 when using the S’hail app with the Roads and Transport Authority, ordering  a taxi through Careem or hailing a taxi during daytime hours. The base fare remains at Dh12 for Careem or S'hail, and Dh5 for street-hailed taxis during daytime hours from 6am to 8am and from 10am to 4pm. The nighttime base fare is set at Dh5.50, plus Dh2.14 per kilometer travelled for rides from 10pm to 6am on weekdays, and from midnight to 6am on Fridays and weekends. The overall fare is calculated based on the base fare plus the distance travelled and time spent in the taxi. These changes reflect fluctuations in petrol prices, which have increased significantly this year. Getting a taxi in Dubai is straightforward and convenient. The city has a well-deployed fleet of taxis, making it easy to find one at any time. You can flag down a taxi from the street, call for a radio-taxi, or use ride-hailing apps like Careem, S’hail, and the DTC app. These apps provide an estimate of the journey cost before booking, helping you budget for your trip. For those who prefer to plan ahead, you can book a taxi in advance through various services. DTC allows bookings via their dispatch centre at 800 880 88 or their mobile application. Careem lets you book a Hala Taxi for travel within Dubai or between emirates, and Uber offers a flat rate, which can be more economical for longer distances. MKQ/Expat Media
