Singer's mother and a radio promotions director remain as defendants

  DENVER, Colorado – A judge has decided to exclude Taylor Swift as defendant in a federal lawsuit filed by a former radio host who claimed that her accusation that he groped her in June 2013 cost him his job. The singer's mother, Andrea Swift, and radio promotions director, Frank Bell, will remain as defendants in the case filed by ex-KYGO DJ David Mueller. Taylor hugged her lawyers and appeared emotional following the court's decision. The court ruled that Taylor did not act inappropriately when she told her mother and Bell about the groping incident. Mueller sued Taylor, her mother and Bell after they informed KYGO management that he groped the singer, prompting the radio station to fire him. He is seeking US$3 million in damages and compensation. The jury composed of six women and two men will hear closing arguments on Mueller's case and in Taylor's countersuit starting Monday, reports said. Taylor testified in court on Thursday during Mueller's trial wherein she described the alleged groping as "horrifying and shocking." "No one could have expected this to happen. It had never happened before. It was horrifying and shocking," Taylor replied when asked by Mueller's lawyer Gabriel McFarland why her bodyguard did not intervene when the alleged groping happened. "What Mr. Mueller did was very intentional. I am critical of your client for sticking his hand under my skirt and grabbing my ass," Taylor said. The alleged assault occurred during a Denver stopover on Taylor Swift's Red tour. Mueller had been invited to meet her before the show. The incident led to Mueller's termination from his job. Mueller, 55, had denied committing the offense. After Mueller sued Taylor, Mrs. Swift and Bell, the singer filed a countersuit for assault and battery. Although she is asking only one dollar as retribution, she hoped that her case would be "an example to other women who may resist publicly reliving similar outrageous and humiliating acts." During her testimony, Taylor rejected Mueller's claim that their physical interaction was basic "jostling" for a photo and dismissed the possibility that she had misidentified Mueller. "This is what happened, it happened to me, I know it was him," she said. When told that Mueller had lost his job, Taylor replied: "I'm not going to allow you or your client to make me feel in any way that this is my fault, because it isn't. I am being blamed for the unfortunate events of his life that are a product of his decisions and not mine."
