Taylor Swift has officially endorsed Kamala Harris for president in the upcoming US election in November. The American pop icon announced her support via an Instagram post on Tuesday shortly after the presidential debate.

"I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos," Taylor Swift said in her Instagram post caption. Swift also endorsed Harris' running Tim Walz for Vice President, stating, "I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate @timwalz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades," She also expressed her concerns about AI and misinformation, specifically regarding an AI-generated video of her falsely endorsing Donald Trump. "Recently, I discovered that an AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted on his site. This situation heightened my fears about AI and the dangers of spreading misinformation. It made me realize the importance of being transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth," she remarked. In her post, Swift included a photo with her cat and signed off as “childless cat lady,” alluding to a phrase previously used by Senator JD Vance, Trump’s running mate, to criticize Democrats. Swift is now encouraging her followers, including her large fanbase known as "Swifties," to support Kamala Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, in the November election. In early August, Kamala Harris became the Democratic Party's nominee for president after President Joe Biden withdrew from the 2024 presidential race. Later that month, Harris selected Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate. Swift's endorsement is considered one of the most high-profile endorsements Harris has received from the entertainment industry.
