A 15-year-old teenage boy who suffered a severe eye injury while at school has regained his vision, thanks to a surgery at Aster Hospital Mankhool in Dubai. Dhikshit Kottiyattil Anoop was stabbed in the right eye by a ballpoint pen last June 20, which threatened to cause him permanent blindness. Following emergency treatment at a local hospital, Dhikshit was transferred to Aster Hospital Mankhool for advanced care. On June 21, 2024, he underwent a one-hour surgery performed by Specialist Ophthalmologist Dr. Parth Hemantkumar Joshi. The delicate procedure involved repairing the corneal tear and removing damaged tissue. The surgery was successful, and Dhikshit began showing signs of recovery. However, Dhikshit later developed a traumatic cataract, a common complication of severe eye injuries. On July 25, 2024, he returned to Aster Hospital for a second surgery. This two-stage procedure included cataract extraction and artificial lens implantation, followed by vitrectomy and peripheral iridectomy to prevent increased eye pressure. The surgery, led by Dr. Joshi and Dr. Gazala Hasan Mansuri, successfully restored much of Dhikshit’s vision. Dr. Joshi emphasized the complexity of the case, noting the extensive damage to Dhikshit’s eye. "Our primary focus was on preserving as much vision as possible," said Dr. Joshi. Thanks to prompt medical intervention, Dhikshit is now on the road to recovery, with his vision significantly improved. Dhikshit’s mother, Greeshma Anoop, expressed her gratitude for the medical team’s expertise, crediting their swift action with saving her son’s sight.
