Teen stowaway wanted fortune by begging in Dubai where others have reportedly made hundreds of thousands of dirhams
DUBAI - In the hopes of making money by becoming a beggar in Dubai, a Chinese teenager managed to escape airport authorities and squeezed into the cargo hold of an Emirates passenger jet that had flown from Shanghai to Dubai.
The 16-year-old boy named Xu was found hiding in the cargo hold of flight EK303 from Shanghai on May 27, China's Xinhua news agency reported
The news agency reported that the boy did it because he had heard beggars in Dubai could make up to 470,000 yuan a month.
The China Daily report said non-UAE citizens were making a fortune by begging, with some making up to Dh270,000.
Xinhua said that consulate staff had been sent to the airport to learn more about the situation. CLM/Expat Media
