Dubai is in for a night of laughter as Filipino comedian and actor Super Tekla makes his much-awaited return to the city for the Tekla and Ady Comedy Show this weekend. The show will be held on Saturday (August 30) at Khalidia Palace Hotel in Deira, with doors opening at 6:30pm and the performance starting at 7:30pm. Tickets are priced at Dh150, inclusive of a dinner buffet and raffle draws. The event is presented by Rose ‘N Butterfly and Goldenbel Creative Events Management. Tekla is no stranger to Dubai fans, having performed in the city in 2019 alongside iconic Filipino band Aegis at the Dubai World Trade Center. Earlier this year, he also headlined comedy shows in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia, with fellow comedian Donita Nose. Known for his flamboyant stage persona, Tekla recently addressed questions about his gender identity in an interview on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda. The King of Talk asked him whether people still question if he is straight. “There are still a few who ask, ‘What really is your identity?’” Tekla admitted in Filipino. “Before, I tried to present myself as masculine—like someone who fixes air conditioners. But it didn’t really work for me as a performer. When I started dressing up as a woman, my character came out, so I embraced it. But I am totally a guy, straight.” In a separate February 2024 interview on Sarap ‘Di Ba?, Tekla explained why he chose to dress feminine for some of his characters. “I just adapted to it because in this industry you need to be resourceful. If you need to go with the flow, as long as you’re not hurting anyone, you have to do it. You have to build your character and create your own identity that people will recognize as you,” he said in Filipino. Offstage, Tekla prefers a masculine style in his daily life. He is also a proud father to three children: Aira, a teenager, and two younger kids.
