Mandy Moore, best known for her role in This Is Us, revealed she had to flee her Malibu home with her children, pets, and husband, musician Taylor Goldsmith. In an emotional Instagram post, Moore described their chaotic departure, saying, “We grabbed what we could and got out as the flames crept closer. It’s a terrifying reality that so many face right now.” The actress also shared a video of her children sitting in the back seat of their car, visibly distressed as smoke billowed in the background. “We are safe, but it’s devastating to see this happening to our community,” Moore added. She thanked first responders for their efforts, saying, “The firefighters are the real heroes. We owe them so much.” In Malibu, where Moore’s home is located, dozens of properties were reduced to ashes as the flames raced down from the hills. Other high-profile evacuations included “Star Wars” actor Mark Hamill and Emmy-winning actor James Woods. Hamill described his last-minute escape as “surreal,” noting small fires were visible on both sides of the road as he drove to safety. Reality TV stars Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, known for The Hills, confirmed they had lost their home to the flames. Montag shared her heartbreak on social media, saying, “We’re watching our house burn down on the security cameras. It’s like a nightmare come true.” Steve Guttenberg, star of Police Academy, highlighted the challenges faced by first responders. Appearing on a live broadcast, he urged residents to act responsibly during evacuations. “Don’t abandon your cars on the roads—it’s making it harder for fire trucks to get through,” Guttenberg said. Ben Affleck, Jamie Lee Curtis, Maria Shriver, Tom Hanks and Reese Witherspoon were also forced to evacuate their homes as wildfires spread through the Pacific Palisades area.

Damage spreads to Santa Monica and Pasadena

The fires also caused significant damage in Santa Monica, where flames jumped across the Pacific Coast Highway, threatening homes and businesses. Residents reported witnessing towering walls of fire that consumed everything in their path. In Pasadena, the Eaton Fire continued to grow rapidly, consuming over 1,000 acres. Local authorities evacuated nearly 100 residents from a nursing home, many of whom required assistance due to mobility issues. A volunteer at the scene said, “It was heartbreaking to see elderly residents wheeled out in such a chaotic situation.” Emergency responders struggled to control the spread of the fires, with gusts of wind exceeding 80 miles per hour thwarting containment efforts. Bulldozers were deployed to clear abandoned vehicles blocking escape routes, while firefighting aircraft conducted relentless water drops. The Getty Villa in Malibu, home to priceless works of art and historical artifacts, narrowly avoided disaster. Although flames scorched nearby trees, preventative measures, including the trimming of vegetation, saved the site from significant damage. “The museum remains secure, but it was a close call,” a spokesperson said.

Statewide emergency declared

California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency as the fires continued to rage across Southern California. “We are deploying all available resources to combat these fires and ensure the safety of our residents,” Newsom said in a statement. The National Weather Service issued its highest alert for fire danger, citing low humidity, dry vegetation, and strong winds. “These are some of the worst conditions we’ve seen in years,” a meteorologist warned. US President Joe Biden pledged federal assistance to support California’s firefighting efforts. “We stand ready to provide whatever resources are necessary to help suppress these terrible fires,” Biden said. A federal grant was also approved to aid in the state’s emergency response.
