Is this what they're planning for New Year's spectacle at Burj Khalifa?
DUBAI - Burj Khalifa lit up in different colours at 2am on Thursday, fueling speculation that the traditional New Year's Eve pyrotechnics show at the Dubai landmark may be replaced with a lights show this year.
Emaar has neither confirmed nor denied this, but said that final preparations are underway to put on a grand "Light up 2018" spectacle that will be Dubai's first world record attempt in 2018.
The developer has not announced details of the show, but said earlier this week that hundreds of skilled professionals have been working round-the-clock to work on the project.
Emaar has said New Year's Eve festivities at Downtown Dubai will feature a "never-before marvel" at Burj Khalifa, adding that special viewing decks will be set up for the public in Burj Park, South Ridge and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard.
Celebrations kick off at 5pm starting with Dubai Fountain shows and live music. The event will also be broadcast live on TV and on mydubainewyear.com.
