  DUBAI – Police arrested three Asian nationals who tried to smuggle gold bars outside of the country by hiding them inside their butts. Police said the gold loot was worth between Dh3 million and Dh4 millon. According to Dubai Police, the suspects took various gold jewelry items from four Dubai villas while the homeowners were abroad and melted them into small bars, which they hid in their backside to get past security at the Dubai International Airport. The suspects were arrested after police received reports about their missing gold jewelry. Maj. Gen. Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant to the Dubai Police Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs, said they managed to identify the three men "who stole valuable belongings worth between Dh3 million and Dh4 million." Police informed Customs officers stationed at the UAE's various entry and exit points and the trio were arrested while trying to leave through the airport, Al Mansouri said. An x-ray examination conducted on the suspects found the gold bars hidden in their rectum. Al Mansouri said it was the police's first time to have come across such a method in smuggling stolen gold out of the country. Al Mansouri said police raided the suspects' apartment where police found a small quantity of melted gold. Police said the suspects confessed to the crime and charges are being readied against them. Meanwhile, Al Mansouri advised homeowners to register with the "Home Security" program through the Dubai Police smart application or by visiting the nearest police station to their place and put their cash and jewelry in bank lockers instead of keeping them at home.
