Thousands participate in Terry Fox Run Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI - Abu Dhabi’s 22nd Terry Fox Run took over the capital’s corniche on Friday (April 19), where thousands of participants walked, ran and cycled to help fund cancer research projects across the emirates. Held under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Sultan Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, Advisor to His Highness the President of the UAE, the annual Abu Dhabi run has become the largest single-day fundraiser for cancer research. Terry Fox’s legacy continues to inspire thousands of people to come together in support of his mission. “The Terry Fox Run gives everyone the opportunity to honor someone who has personally faced cancer, while making a difference in the lives of so many others. Yesterday we saw incredible enthusiasm from the community to do good, inspired by Terry and his lasting legacy,” said Fred Fox, Terry’s brother and Manager of Supporter Relations at the Terry Fox Foundation. “The longevity of support in the UAE is a testament to the power of Terry’s mission, and once again we say a wholehearted thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, and donated this year,” Fox said. The Terry Fox Run honors the legacy of the young Canadian who lost his leg to cancer aged 18. While undergoing treatment, the passionate cross-country runner was struck by the suffering of other cancer patients, spurring him to take action by organizing a charity run across Canada – the Marathon of Hope – in 1980. Running from the east to the west coast to raise funds for cancer research, the feat was the start of a legacy that has continued long after Terry Fox passed away aged of 22. Every year since, thousands of supporters all over the world continue to keep Terry’s dream alive.
