Former world no. 1 golfer will also enter a diversion program for DUI first-offenders

  PALM BEACH COUNTY, Florida – Tiger Woods will plead guilty to reckless driving in connection with his arrest on suspicion of DUI last May and will enter a diversion program for first offenders. Under the program created in 2013, reports said Woods, 41, will spend a year on probation, pay a US$250 fine and court costs, attend DUI school and perform 50 hours of community service. He's also required to attend a workshop where victims of impaired drivers detail how their lives were damaged and face other conditions. 15th Judicial Circuit State Attorney Dave Aronberg said the program calls for a defendant to plead guilty to a lesser charge of reckless driving instead of the more serious charge of DUI. Woods did not appear at the Palm Beach County courthouse for his arraignment on Wednesday, which has been rescheduled to Oct. 25. No plea was also entered in behalf of Woods on Wednesday, said Aronberg's executive assistant, Mike Edmondson. But according to Prosecutor Adrienne Ellis, Woods has agreed to plead guilty to reckless driving in the October hearing. Under the plea deal, prosecutors would drop the DUI charge and if Woods completes the program, he can ask the court to erase his reckless driving conviction. The golfer was arrested on May 29 after he was found asleep in his 2015 Mercedes-Benz on the side of the road with the car engine running. Woods said alcohol was not involved in the incident and blamed "an unexpected reaction to prescribed medications" for back pain and insomnia. Woods announced on Twitter back in June that he would get "professional help" to manage his use of medication for back pain and sleep disorder.
