Time for Filipinos to move as a nation, says Sebastian Duterte

  DAVAO CITY – Sebastian Duterte showed a different side of himself in front of thousands of people at the thanksgiving party of his father, incoming president Rodrigo Duterte, in Davao City on Saturday (June 4). The younger Duterte shed his usual happy-go-lucky persona, thanking a huge crowd of screaming supporters for backing his father’s presidential bid, and urging everyone to “continue the revolution”. “I would like to congratulate the Filipino people. We have come to our senses. Nakapaglagay tayo ng president na alam nating yan ang kailangan ng bansa natin (We put a president we know that our country needs),” a serious-looking Duterte told the crowd. Duterte also pushed for nationalism, saying Filipinos have been influenced "for too long" by foreign cultures. "Now is the time to move as a nation. We are talented. We are Filipinos and we are gifted. Gamiton nato ang atong kakayahan para sa atong nasod (Let us use our capabilities for our country),” he said. He called on Filipinos to help compatriots in need. “Let us be good to one another. Magusod na ta karon. Ang tanan magsugod sa ato mga Pilipino (Let us start now. Everything starts with us Filipinos),” he said. “Let us continue the revolution. Naa pay unom ka tuig. Dili nato sayon sayonon (There are still six years. Let’s not take it for granted),” he said. “We have a chance to change our country… let us build a better tomorrow for our children,” he said.
