A part of the destroyed Titan submersible is recovered. US COAST GUARD

Human remains were found in debris that was recovered from the Titan submersible that imploded in deep sea, according to the US Coast Guard on Thursday (June 29). The latest discovery came as tributes continued to pour in for the five men who died onboard the submersible, including Dubai-based British billionaire Hamish Harding. In a statement, the US Coast Guard said that recovery teams have brought ashore debris from the crushed submersible. It will be transported to a US port for further analysis. The Coast Guard said that US medical professionals "will conduct a formal analysis of presumed human remains that have been carefully recovered within the wreckage”. Fragments of the submersible were found on the seabed about 1,600 feet from the bow of the Titanic wreck. The sub was reported missing one hour and 45 minutes after it descended to the wreckage on June 18 for what was supposed to be just a two-hour tour. Its disappearance sparked a four-day search and rescue mission that involved the US, Canada and France. Among the dead was Harding, OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, prominent Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his 19-year-old son Suleman, and French explorer Paul-Henri Nargeolet.

Hamish Harding’s family pays tribute

In Dubai, Harding’s family paid touching tributes to the businessman. In a statement released by Harding’s company, Action Aviation, his two sons described him as the “best father”. The joint statement by Rory and Giles was released on Monday. Harding’s son called him an “avid adventurer, a loving father, family man and a determined and tireless businessman”. Constantly full of wisdom and life advice to bestow, he made my brother and I into the people we are today. He was an energetic and charismatic man who by the sheer weight of his personality lifted up and supported everyone around him. His other son said: "My dad was a tenacious, hard-working businessman … He inspired me more than anyone will ever know, taught me things I'll never forget, and he meant everything to me. Anyone who ever met my dad will praise his humorous personality, his sheer work ethic, and his constant generosity. My life will be a success if I'm even half the man he . “My dad is gone but I will never forget him,” his son said. Harding, who lived in Dubai in the last 15 years, was the chairman of private plane company Action Aviation. His family described him as “a guide, an inspiration, a support and a living legend”. Harding is survived by his wife and his four children, including his step-son and step-daughter. Harding lived in Dubai with his wife and their two teenage sons. Dubai is where his company Action Group is based. In a statement, his relatives said that the 58-year-old will be remembered as a loving husband and a dedicated father. “He was one of a kind and we adored him. He was a passionate explorer – whatever the terrain – who lived his life for his family, his business and for the next adventure,” they added. “What he achieved in his lifetime was truly remarkable and if we can take any small consolation from this tragedy, it’s that we lost him doing what he loved,” his family added. Harding earned a Guinness World Record for the fastest circumnavigation of the Earth via the North and South Poles by an aircraft in 2018. He also held the world record for the longest duration at full ocean depth by a crewed vessel. He dived to the lowest depth of the Mariana Trench in March 2021, headed to the South Pole with Buzz Aldrin, and took part in a human space flight.
