Top cause of deadly UAE traffic accidents during Ramadan revealed     DUBAI - Tailgating is the top cause of deadly traffic accidents during Ramadan, the Roads and Transport (RTA) authority revealed. “Most traffic accidents that take place during Ramadan are attributed to the lack of safe distance between vehicles," said Maitha Bin Adai, CEO of the Traffic and Roads Agency at RTA. About 182 accidents that took place during Ramadan last year resulted in 13 deaths and 98 injuries, according to Dubai Police statistics. "Motorists are therefore urged to leave sufficient distance between vehicles and ensure that the airconditioning unit is effective as the hot weather contributes to the feeling of fatigue and exhaustion," Bin Adai said. She also cautioned drivers against sudden swerving, as it is the first factor responsible for serious and fatal traffic accidents. Sudden swerving caused 572 accidents in Dubai last year, constituting 19.5 percent of the total number of traffic accidents, according to Dubai Police. Bin Adai urged motorists to focus on the road condition, and make advance plans for their journeys. “Drivers have to ensure (through the side mirror) that the lane is clear, and mind the blind spot. When a lane change is needed, the driver must use the light signal and maintain the same speed during the process," Bin Adai said. ICA/Expat Media
