Traffic jams between Dubai and the northern Emirates is costing the government more than Dh12 billion, according to a member of the Federal National Council (FNC). Adnan Al Hammadi pointed out in an FNC meeting on Wednesday (February 24) that the congestion is also causing several other problems. Al Hamadi noted that more than 850,000 vehicles use main federal roads: Emirates Road, Mohamed Bin Zayed Road, and Al Ittihad Street, traveling between Dubai and the northern Emirates. The northern Emirates comprises of Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Ajman and Umm Al Quwain. Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail Al Mazrouei said that proposals to solve traffic congestion between emirates will be implemented in the second half of 2024. Mazrouei said that the ministry will coordinate with the concerned authorities to decide whether there is an actual need to construct more roads, increase lanes or redirect vehicles during peak hours to secondary roads. “The ministry is working hard to determine the ways to ease these congestions. In the second half of 2024, some projects in this regard will be implemented,” Mazrouei said.
