'Final' tweets and videos of trapped Aleppo residents posted on social media

  MANILA - As the Syrian army started advancing deeper into Aleppo and the bombings got louder and closer to the eastern part of the city where thousands of residents were still trapped, heartwrenching goodbye messages were being sent out by citizens via social media. The International Committee of the Red Cross has been quoted in news reports as warning that many lives are at risk as thousands of Aleppo residents have nowhere to flee. The White Helmets, a group of volunteers searching for and rescuing Aleppo residents since the war began, said in a statement that about 100,000 civilians are still in the city and "they can do more" to save them. Rebels fighting Bashar al-Assad's army have reportedly reached a ceasefire deal with Russia on Tuesday to allow opposition forces and about 40,000 to evacuate Aleppo. Russia is helping al-Assad retake the city. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, for his part, is alarmed by atrocities committed against Aleppo inhabitants amid reports of torture and execution of civilians and women being raped by al-Assad's forces. From the interior part of Aleppo, the trapped civilians have been sending out tweets and videos saying goodbye. Bana Alabed, a seven-year-old girl, tweeted: My name is Bana, I'm 7 years old. I am talking to the world now live from East #Aleppo. This is my last moment to either live or die.” Bana Rami Zien, a Syrian journalist and activist as stated in his Twitter bio, said: "U guess it's goodbye.. Thanks all who stand for us and pay for us. But it's almost over and they're hours away of killing us." Lina Shamy tweeted: "HUMANS ALL OVER THE WORLD, DON'T SLEEP! YOU CAN DO SOMETHING! PROTEST NOW! STOP THE GENOCIDE!"
