Trucks and commercial vehicles illegally parked in Dubai’s International City have started getting warning notices as part of a campaign in the area. The warning notices were first issued on Saturday (October 21) by Nakheel Asset Management and Infrastructure. Owners were warned to remove their vehicle. Vehicles that are not removed will be towed. It came after residents complained that commercial vehicles are taking up limited parking spaces in the community. "Thank you to Nakheel for taking action against owners of these commercial vehicles. They've been a big menace for a long time in this community," Pradeep P, a resident, told Expatmedia.net. The popular residential neighbourhood has been suffering from severe parking shortage for years, with commercial vehicles such as pickup trucks, minibuses and school buses contributing to the shortage of parking spots in the residential area. In recent weeks, residents forced to park in undesignated areas have complained of getting Dh500 fines. A Nakheel representative also confirmed to Expatmedia.net that residents reported receiving the fines from Dubai Police. “My family received parking fines for two vehicles in October. We didn’t have any choice but to park on the roadside because there are just no more parking spots by 7pm, which is when we arrive home,” said Mishal, a long-time resident. Another resident, who runs a cafeteria in International City, said some of the commercial vehicles are abandoned in the same parking spot for days, even weeks. Signboards in International City clearly state, “No parking for pickups and heavy vehicles in residential areas”. However, residents still find trucks and other commercial vehicles parked in the area. A Nakheel representative told Expatmedia.net that the developer is looking into the issue, and also advised residents to report commercial vehicles for illegal parking through the Dubai Police app, or by email to help@nakheelcommunities.com along with photos and plate number details of offending vehicles.
