'Intense lobbying' by Baghdad prompts removal of Iraq; new directive takes effect on March 16

  WASHINGTON – US President Donald Trump has issued a revised travel prohibition against citizens from Muslim-dominated countries but dropped Iraq from the list of states mentioned. The amended exective order, which will take effect on March 16, also reinstated a blanket ban on all refugees. This time, the directive exempts citizens from Syria, Iran, Yemen, Somalia, Sudan and Libya who are legal permanent residents or have valid visas to enter the US from the travel ban, including those whose visas were revoked during the implementation of the original order issued last January. The travel ban issued by Trump two month ago had been blocked by US federal courts. The new measure blocks citizens of the six Muslim-dominated countries from getting visas for at least 90 days or three months and suspends the entry of refugees into the US for 120 days. US officials have also been told to improve vetting measures. "We cannot compromise our nation's security by allowing visitors entry when their own governments are unable or unwilling to provide the information we need to vet them responsibly, or when those governments actively support terrorism," Attorney General Jeff Sessions said yesterday.
