'I will not forget what you said', Trump tells Pope after a closed-door meeting

  VATICAN CITY – US President Donald Trump met Pope Francis for the first time yesterday and according to handouts issued by White House, the two men talked about climate change, terrorism and peace. Trump was accompanied by First Lady Melania Trump and his daughter Ivanka and her husband. When the Pope welcomed the Trumps to his private study, international edia described the atmosphere as "stiff". While President Trump grinned widely, the Pope smiled modestly and had a business-like demeanor. The meeting between Trump and the Pope had been highly-anticipated because the two had engaged in a word war during the US presidential campaign last year. After the closed-door meeting, journalists noted that the mood between Trump and the Pope has lightened as evidenced by the Pope's broader smile during his exchange of gifts with the US chief executive, Trump gave the Pope a set of Martin Luther King's writings as the US President remembered the Pope's address to the US Congress in 2015 in which he quoted King. The Pope, in turn, gave Trump a Roman medal that bore an image of an olive tree to synbolize peace. For the First Lady, the Pope gave her a rosary.
