US president says peace agreement between Israelis, Palestinians is crucial

  TEL AVIV – US President Donald Trump arrived in Israel yesterday for a two-day visit and hopes to come up with a peace deal between the Israelis and Palestinians, which he described as "crucial." Trump and his delegation came from Saudi Arabia and the US President said he and other Arab leaders see a peace deal between Israel and the Palestine State as integral to the region. "On those issues, there is a strong consensus among the nations of the world - including many in the Muslim world. I was deeply encouraged by my conversations with Muslim world leaders in Saudi Arabia, including King Salman, who I spoke to at great length. King Salman feels very strongly and, I can tell you, would love to see peace with Israel and the Palestinians," he said in a speech upon his arrival at the Tel Aviv airport. Trump and Netanyahu had dinner with their wives but they did not publicly discuss what steps they would take to come up with a peace deal between Israel and Palestine. Meanwhile, Trump met with Israeli President Reuven Rivlin after which he toured the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, which houses what is believed to be the tomb of Jesus Christ. Trump also visited the Western Wall, the holiest site for Jewish prayer. He is the first sitting US President to do so. Trump wore a traditional skullcap and left a note in a wall crevice. Trump is scheduled to depart Jerusalem today to go to Bethlehem in the West Bank to meet with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas then return to Jerusalem to lay a wreath at Yad Vashem, the Holocaust remembrance center.
