US President Donald Trump has announced that he plans to “permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries,” escalating his administration’s immigration crackdown a day after an Afghan national allegedly shot two National Guard soldiers in Washington. “I will permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries to allow the US system to fully recover,” Trump wrote on social media on Thursday. He also said his administration would move to end all federal benefits and subsidies for non-citizens. The alleged shooter, an Afghan national, opened fire close to the White House, injuring two National Guard members. The incident prompted renewed scrutiny of immigration policies and triggered Trump’s latest announcement, according to Reuters. Trump further threatened to reverse “millions” of admissions granted under former President Joe Biden and said he intends to “remove anyone who is not a net asset to the United States.” The United Nations identifies the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) — often referred to as “Third World” nations — across Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and the Pacific. Trump’s pledge targets migration from all these countries, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Haiti, Myanmar, Nepal, Somalia, Uganda, Yemen and dozens more.
