Turkey earthquake: UAE team rescues child, man trapped for nearly 120 hours under rubble

UAE search and rescue squads have saved an 11-year-old child and a man who were trapped under the rubble for nearly 120 hours following a strong earthquake that hit Turkey. “The Emirati team worked incredibly hard during the operation to save the two victims… trapped among the rubble for nearly 120 hours,” according to state news agency WAM. The incident happened in the Kahramanmaras province. Both survivors have received medical aid and are currently in good health, authorities said.

134 UAE rescuers race against time to save quake survivors

The UAE has deployed 134 rescuers under its “Gallant Knight/2” operation in Syria and Turkey; racing against time to save people trapped under the rubble. The Joint Operations Command of the Ministry of Defence said that the teams, which are equipped with specialised equipment, have been deployed across several affected areas. The UAE's rescue teams were among the first to arrive at the quake-struck sites, according to the Joint Operations Command. Thousands of people were killed in Turkey and Syria when a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck early on Monday morning (February 6). More than 100 aftershocks were recorded in the day following the quake, including one at a magnitude of 7.5. The earthquake was the strongest in Turkey in more than 80 years, and one of its deadliest. On Saturday (February 11), the death toll in Syria and Turkey crossed 24,000 and it continues to climb.
