Many users cannot access Twitter due to a major outage late Wednesday. Some users encountered an error notice when they attempted to access the microblogging website. More than 8,700 user reports of issues with the website had been received, according to Downdetector, a service that monitors website outages. Downdetector tweeted: "User reports indicate Twitter has been having problems since 7:13 EST." Many users can still use the platform, indicating that the outage, which appears to be affecting several nations, has not entirely shut down the platform. Users have also mentioned performance disparities between the platform's desktop and mobile versions. Elon Musk, who brought Twitter in October for $44bn, tweeted late on Wednesday that the platform "Works for me." The outage is the most recent example of the instability that has characterized Twitter since Musk's acquisition, which divided the platform's users. One of the wealthiest men in the world and the CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk, has reduced the platform's staff, launched a paid subscriber service, and oversaw contentious changes to its moderation policy, which he has cast as a win for free speech. Conservatives who have long complained about Twitter's purported tilt in favor of liberal viewpoints have embraced his network ownership. Musk's focus on the platform, where he regularly posts his thoughts about current events, has also raised concerns among investors in Tesla, whose share price has plummeted nearly 70 percent this year.
