The Al Ain Court has ordered two men to pay Dh20,000 in fines and compensation after they were found guilty of providing a housemaid who was unfit for work due to a medical condition requiring surgery. The court ruled that the defendants acted as unlicensed intermediaries in the recruitment process and refused to refund the employer despite knowing the maid was ill. The case was filed by a woman who had paid Dh15,000 to hire a domestic worker, only to discover that the maid was suffering from a serious medical condition. Upon requesting a refund, the recruiters denied any responsibility. A legal investigation confirmed that the two men violated UAE labor laws by acting as unauthorized recruitment agents without obtaining proper permits. The Court of Cassation upheld the ruling, stating that the defendants were responsible for the physical and moral harm caused to the employer. The compensation breakdown included Dh15,000 for financial damages and Dh5,000 for emotional distress.
