The Dubai Court of Appeal increased the prison sentence from five to ten years for two Asians who kidnapped, robbed, and assaulted a woman. According to police records, the incident occurred in July when the two enticed a girl of their nationality via social media. The victim stated that she met a person of her nationality on social media. He invited her to a party in Dubai hosted by community members. According to the victim, she agreed to attend the party. The first suspect arrived at the agreed-upon time in a vehicle, but as soon as she got in, she was surprised by another person who beat her and threatened her with electric shocks. They took her to a villa in the Jebel Ali area, stole Dh5,000 from her possession, confiscated her phone, and transferred Dh165,000 from her bank account to theirs. They kept assaulting her and photographing her in immoral situations. The victim went on to say that they used a messaging platform to contact her family in her home country to obtain money after sending her photos and a video clip of the assault on her. After three days, they put a bag over her eyes and mouth and left her in another place, where she contacted the police. According to a police officer, the CID team successfully identified the suspects. The first admitted to luring the victim via social media and agreeing to rob her. The second admitted to renting a vehicle to commit the crime and assaulting the victim. In addition to the jail sentence, the court ordered them to pay the victim Dh170,000. After serving their sentences, they will be deported from the state.
